Singularity is a mysterious trait of some photographs; the spectator’s eyes and thoughts gravitate towards them for no other reason. Singularity may be shared, but it is predominantly personal: it will not be measured or pinpointed. It seems to be something that vaguely arises, sometimes, from the dialogue between images and words; when an object achieves the status of subject and enters into conversation with the spectator. The photographs presented in this exhibition, selected from the collection of the Photography Museum and the private collections of the writers Jacek Dehnel and Wojciech Nowicki, form a truly delightful assortment of baf ing images, confusing as to the photographer’s motive, or simply ill-made. The majority are fruits of the work of error and chance, which, in photography, fully deserve our respect. The exhibition does not focus on the customary questions of the pre-existence of the people, things and situations featuring in the photographs. Visitors are strongly encouraged to make unlimited use of their imagination and to see the showcased photographs as autonomous worlds, devoid of history and entirely open to interpretation. To set an example, the curators do not adhere to facts and allow themselves to voice even the most outrageous associations.
